DPRK marks 49th anniversary of friendship treaty with China
The Korea-China Friendship Association and Korean Committee for Cultural Relations With Foreign Countries on Friday marked the 49th anniversary of the signing of the DPRK-China Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance.
Choe Chang Sik, director of the Korea-China Friendship Association and health minister of the republic, said while observing the occasion that his country would do its best to strengthen and promote the friendship between the two countries.
Liu Hongcai, Chinese ambassador to the DPRK, described the relationship between the two countries as "having been developing constantly under the attention of the top leaders of both countries."
China will further consolidate and develop the China-DPRK friendship, the Chinese diplomat said.
The DPRK-China Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance was signed on July 11, 1961, in Beijing and took effect on Sept. 10 of that same year.
China's friendship allows it to turn a blind eye to North Korea's attack on South Korea and yesterday block a U.N. Security Council resolution mentioning North Korea as the perpetrator. South Korea nows knows on which side of the 38th parallel China stands.
