ATLANTA (AP) -- Falcons quarterback Michael Vick was knocked out of today's game against the Minnesota Vikings with a sprained right knee ligament. Vick was hurt midway through the second quarter when he rolled right to throw and got hit hard by Minnesota's Erasmus James just after delivering an incomplete pass.

The 266-pound James fell on top of the quarterback as they tumbled to the turf. Vick grabbed at his shin and remained down for several minutes, the Georgia Dome fans gasping when they realized who was injured. The two-time Pro Bowler was surrounded by three trainers and coach Jim Mora.

Finally, Vick climbed to his feet and walked slowly off the field to a standing ovation. Matt Schaub took over at quarterback with the Falcons leading 14-to-0, and pushed the margin to 24-to-0 by halftime. Vick tested his knee on the sideline and didn't appear seriously injured, but the team said he had a sprained medial collateral ligament and wouldn't return.

Still in uniform, Vick watched the second half from the sideline. Before going down, he rushed four times for 58 yards and completed six-of-nine passes for 49 yards with a touchdown.
