New Orleans, Louisiana (AHN) - Thirty-four charges of involuntary manslaughter are brought against owners of the St. Rita's Nursing Home in Louisiana for the deaths of patients who were left behind on-purpose to drown as Hurricane Katrina approached.

Mable Mengano and Salvador Mengano the owners surrendered to authorities on Tuesday and were arrested and are currently in jail awaiting a bond hearing.

The owners were asked if they wanted to move the patients, but according to the Louisiana State Attorney General they said "no". Repeated warnings by local officials went unanswered by the couple who know face between five to ten years in prison for each count.
