TOKYO — The United Nations wants Japan to participate more in international peacekeeping operations and again requested Tokyo to take part in a planned mission in Sudan, U.N. Undersecretary General Shashi Tharoor said Thursday.

Tharoor, visiting Japan at the invitation of the Foreign Ministry, told a news conference in Tokyo that the United Nations was disappointed with Japan's continued cuts in financial aid to developing countries and urged that the trend be reversed. (Kyodo News)
