Japan Today Japan News - Japan's Leading International News Network: "U.S. warns Taiwan against changing names of firms, offices abroad

WASHINGTON The U.S. State Department warned Taiwan on Monday against its recent moves to change the names of its offices abroad and public companies, saying it may aggravate China and destabilize the Taiwan Strait.
'These changes of terminology for government-controlled enterprises or economic and cultural offices abroad...would appear to unilaterally change Taiwan's status, and for that reason, we're not supportive of them,' department spokesman Adam Ereli told reporters.
Taiwan President Chen Shui-bian has recently expressed his intention to drop 'China' from state-run companies and use such names as 'Taiwan mission' for representative offices, which are mostly called 'cultural and economic' offices, in countries without diplomatic ties. (Kyodo News)"
