Malaysian National News Agency :: BERNAMA: "Can Malaysia Become A 'Bridge' Between The US And The Islamic World?
By Manik Mehta

NEW YORK, July 29 (Bernama) -- The recently-concluded visit to the United States and other Western countries by Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has generated a great deal of goodwill for Malaysia, and there is a feeling being privately expressed that because of its 'moderate face', Malaysia could play the role of a 'bridge' between the West and the Islamic world.

Officials in the State Department and think-tanks in the United States say that they are 'simply charmed' by Abdullah during his first official visit to the United States as Malaysian Prime Minister.

'There is a remarkable change in style. Our business and trade relations with Malaysia have always been good, but there was occasionally a personality clash in the past when the US government was offended by the harsh tones emanating from Kuala Lumpur."
